I worked for the CoGa RR for 41 years. I had layovers in Norris yard, we ate at Irondale Cafe as much as we could, sometimes the crowds were too long to wait for a table. Best food in Alabama.

The food is great. Especially the fried green tomatoes. I did not know we had such a great place in Birmingham, Alabama. I will be eating at the Whistle Stop again.

Our annual spiritual retreat to EWTN--Annunciation Friary in Irondale would NOT be complete without at least one good meal enjoyed at "WC." We were brought there for the first time by Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J., who is a program host at EWTN and a "brother alumni" of mine from Chicago's Quigley Preparatory Seminary. Mrs. Gaudry and I wholeheartedly endorse this delicious slice of Americana. God bless everyone! Bill GaudryOak Lawn, Illinois

A coworker and I were in Irondale to shut down a plant. We had a friend that told us of a little cafe just down the way. He said that this would be the best southern cooking that we had ever eaten, besides moms of course. We ate there on Tuesday July 10, 2007, again on Wed. and on Thu. And just could not leave with out eating there again on Friday. My friend filled out a comment card that had ask how could they improve on what they where doing and he wrote. Move to Charlotte NC. Not only was the food great but the owner and the waitress show true southern hospitality. The young ladies were as pretty as a southern peach as well. I hope that one day I have the pleasure of returning and getting my fill of the fried green tomatoes again.

Hi,I am from Birmingham and LOVE the Cafe. I live in Canada now and miss the cafe so much that I am having a party in honor of the cafe. My mom bought me the recipe book and all my Canadian friends are so thrilled to experience a little taste of the south this June! Congratulations on a great establishment!

Irondale Cafe has the best Macaroni and Cheese, best Fried Green Tomatoes and best Peas I HAVE EVER HAD anywhere. I can't wait for dinner on the days we get to visit. Then afterwards, we talk to the train man across the street and watch the trains. The whole experience makes me feel like a little girl. What a wonderful little piece of heaven you have!

I spent 3 months in Birmingham in early 2005 when my daughter underwent a bone marrow transplant at UAB. We discovered the Irondale Cafe and it became one of our favorite places. You have the best country fried steak, turnip greens and fried okra I have ever eaten with the exception of my mothers fried okra. We try to eat at your place every time we are in Birmingham.

I loved the fried chicken, reminded me of Mama's, and the three vegetables I had were so good I wished I had room to try all of them on the serving line. I'm taking a friends daughter, a UAB student, there for dinner today.

My co-worker and I went back several times in the 2 weeks we were there and the staff remembered us and even what we ate last time! Great turkey, chicken, and some of the best veggies I have ever had. We will go back again and again!PS: Love the decaf iced tea!

My first visit to the Whisle Stop was a few months ago, while on a business trip. We had a terrific lunch there and I sampled some of their delicious fried green tomatoes ! The food was great - I would highly recommend the chocolate chip pecan pie ! I wish it wasn't so far from Oklahoma to Alabama - I would do lunch there every day !!

Having spent nearly every summer at my grandmother's home in Anniston Al. I would always request fried green tomatoes, my favorite. Since her passing I have not had those wonderful green delights; like she made , until my sister and I had the pleasure to stop in at the Whistle Stop Cafe.....I thank you.

I love to head back to Birmingham, where I was born, to visit relatives and catch up on everything. A visit back to Birmingham wouldn't be complete unless I visited the Irondale Cafe. Truly an American Icon. A few years ago I went to the Irondale Cafe just after the main rush for lunch. I was going through the line and noticed that the fried green tomatoes area was empty. The person behind the serving area asked me what I wanted, and I told them I wanted some fried green tomatoes, but I noticed they were out of them. That person said 'We'll just cook you up some fresh green tomatoes." A few minutes later I had a fresh plate of fried green tomatoes and purchased an RC cola and sat outside. What a wonderful experience. I've already alerted my family that I'm getting another 'hankering' for some more...!!!
